In a historic moment for American men’s professional sports, Kevin Maxen, an associate strength coach with the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars, has come out as gay in an exclusive interview with Outsports.

Maxen’s decision to publicly reveal his sexual orientation is driven by his desire to live authentically and inspire others to do the same.

In the candid interview, Maxen expressed his wish to live without fear and not feel compelled to hide aspects of his personal life, particularly his relationship with his boyfriend, Nick.

The strength coach hopes that by speaking openly about his journey, he can support others in their path towards self-acceptance and self-love.

Maxen’s courageous step marks a significant milestone, as he is believed to be the first-ever openly gay male coach in major American men’s pro sports.

He credits the immense love and support from his family, friends, colleagues, and peers, as well as the unwavering encouragement from his partner, for giving him the strength to embrace his true self.

Reflecting on his two-year relationship with Nick, Maxen revealed that it was a transformative experience that ultimately allowed him to recognize his right to love and be loved, irrespective of societal norms.

As he continues his coaching role with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Maxen hopes that his public acknowledgment will serve as an inspiration for countless others who may be struggling to find acceptance and confidence in being their true selves.
