South Carolina football recruit Jaiden Kelly-Murray decommitted from the Gamecocks this week. His measurements during a recent training session fell well short of previously reported data.
Was it the reason for his exit from the recruiting class? Were the Gamecocks deceived? The wideout posted on social media to clear up any misinformation.
Kelly-Murray provided evidence of his abilities on Tuesday night. He refuses to let the narrative grow.
Jaiden Kelly-Murray decommitted from South Carolina.
Kelly-Murray is a four-star recruit from Summerville, South Carolina located just outside of Charleston. He posted over 1,000 yards from scrimmage as a junior while scoring 15 times. He then left Summerville High School to play at Oceanside Academy ahead of his senior year.
The pass catcher holds offers from his home state program, as well as schools like Virginia Tech, Florida, FSU, and UNC.
He committed to play for the Gamecocks in March of 2026. A month later, he’s reopened his recruitment.
His 247 Sports profile lists him as being 5-foot-10. He is also reported to have run a 4.41 second 40-yard dash. His most recent measurements fell short of that previously posted information.
South Carolina insider Wil Gunter provided an update on the wideout after his decommitment. He says he posted a 4.71 second 40-yard dash at his last combine while being measured at 5-foot-8.
He suggested that the showing had an impact on the recruiting decision, though he didn’t provide confirmation.
Gamecocks lost a commitment today from 2027 WR Jaiden Kelly-Murray from Summerville. Not sure if he wanted to look around or the staff encouraged him to look around but measured 5-foot-8 with a recent 4.71 40 time at a combine would make sense for both parties parting ways.

Were the Gamecocks deceived?
That seems unlikely given the fact they offered in January. There was research done. For whatever reason, his numbers in the most recent training session did not meet expectation.
Jaiden Kelly-Murray hinted at a potential decommitment in the days leading up to his change of heart. He said that the Gamecocks has “weaned off a little bit” in his recruitment.
There could be a number of reasons for that outlook. Most obvious would be that South Carolina simply opted to go another route, potentially targeting an older player out of the transfer portal. Or maybe they feel good about the current state of the WR room and would rather use the scholarship at another position.
There is also the belief that Shane Beamer was unhappy that Kelly-Murray’s recruitment was not shut down following his initial commitment. He took a trip to Virginia Tech before decommitting. He also has future visits scheduled with Duke, Illinois, and Wake Forest.
Whatever the case, a narrative was formed. Kelly-Murray did his best to quiet the noise by posting his numbers from a Rivals recruiting event in Miami.
results don’t lie😂👌🏾REAL lasers btw

What really caused the split?
The 5-foot-10 height shouldn’t be the issue. Those measurements are often inflated, even on college rosters. South Carolina had to have known the actual number before extending the offer.
The speed is more concerning. The drop in time from that session in Miami is significant.
Kelly-Murray insists that the 4.41 second time is the standard, though Gamecock insiders have confirmed the 4.71 number.

“There are certainly other guys that South Carolina is involved with at the position,” said Hale McGranahan of 247 Sports. “They’ll take swings on them, and there may come a time where they focus totally on the portal…
“With Kelly-Murray, the best way I can say it is that sometimes these guys don’t have adults that are always acting in best interests of the players… Sometimes, the coaching staff says the juice isn’t worth the squeeze.
“(The 4.71 time) is verified. He was at a combine last month… Those were factors that helped Carolina say, ‘You know what? It’s probably best we just go in another direction.'”
The Gamecocks were not necessarily deceived. They simply gathered new information throughout the recruiting process. Other factors, like loyalty and NIL, were also at play.
In the end, that combination led to a split.
