In a moment of pure football ingenuity — which is especially impressive when you remember he’s in his rookie year — Philadelphia Eagles defensive lineman Jalen Carer almost picked off Patrick Mahomes as he was attempting to spike the ball.

While Carter was ultimately unable to pull the incredible play off, it’s still worth watching all the same, as it’s something you rarely, if ever, see attempted.

Carter, who the Eagles selected out of the University of Georgia with the 9th overall pick in this year’s NFL draft, has 19 combined tackles and four sacks so far this year. He’s also forced two fumbles.

The reason that the Eagles were even able to draft Carter, who was considered by some analysts to be the top overall talent in the 2023 NFL Draft, is because the 22-year-old was involved in a January car accident that resulted in the deaths of two people: University of Georgia football player Devin Willock and staff member Chandler LeCroy.

As for the Monday Night Football game between the defending AFC and NFC champions, the Eagles were able to get revenge on the Chiefs (albeit minor revenge when compared to winning a Super Bowl) by beating them in their own backyard by a score of 21-17.

The game was marked by a massive drop by wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling that would’ve given the Chiefs a 3-point lead with 1:45 to play in the 4th quarter.

Valdes-Scantling’s game-losing drop highlights the Chiefs’ primary issue thus far this season, and that’s the effectiveness of their offensive weapons outside of Travis Kelce.

As a result of the Eagles’ win over the Chiefs, Philadelphia has improved to 9-1, which gives them a 2-game lead in the race for the NFC’s #1 seed, while Kansas City fell to 7-3, thus making them tied for the AFC’s #1 seed with the Baltimore Ravens.
