Philadelphia Eagles quarterback and MVP candidate returned from injury just in time, as the 24-year-old signal-caller was able to suit up for the team’s season-ending win over the New York Giants, which locked up the #1 seed in the NFC.

As a result of their #1 seed in the conference, the Eagles had a bye week during Wild Card weekend, which gave Hurts further time to rehab his injured shoulder.

Speaking to reporters ahead of the NFC divisional round matchup, Hurts was discussing whether or not he’s worried if the Giants’ defenders will target his strained shoulder, to which he replied that he’s got a “bounty on him every week.”

“It’s football. I’ve got a bounty on me every week I go out there on the field,” Hurts told the media. “So, I’m going to go out there and just play my game and whatever happens, happens.”

While Hurts may not have meant for these comments to be taken literally, it’s certainly an eye-opening statement considering that the NFL had a legitimate bounty scandal involving the New Orleans Saints over a decade ago.

Offensive tackle Jordan Mailata also commented on the notion of their being a “bounty” on Hurts when he takes the field:

“If he’s got a bounty, I’ve got a bounty,” said left tackle Jordan Mailata. “It’s my job to make sure that bounty isn’t claimed and do everything I can to execute the right technique and the right plays, and make sure he stays clean, and I stay dirty.”

Daniel Jones and the New York Giants — who upset the Minnesota Vikings last Sunday — will take on Hurts and the Eagles in Philly on Saturday night at 8:15 p.m. The other NFC divisional round game is a matchup between the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys, which will take place on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. EST.

Over in the AFC, the Kansas City Chiefs will host the Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday, while the Bengals will be traveling to Buffalo for a Sunday matchup against the Bills.
