The Detroit Lions currently sit in second place in the NFC North and are technically still alive for a division crown. Yes, the Lions are just 4-7 on the year. They’re also five games behind the Minnesota Vikings in the division. BUT, Detroit is much improved from its 3-13-1 record a year ago.
Low bar, I know.
But second-year head coach Dan Campbell has changed the culture around the Lions franchise. For better or worse. Detroit is no longer a pushover opponent and has the foundations of a good football team.
One thing it’s missing, however, is playmakers. Though that’s partially the Lions’ own doing. But help is on the way!
Lions Rookie WR Jameson Williams Set To Make His NFL Debut On Sunday Vs. Jaguars
The Lions used the second overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft on Michigan defensive end Aidan Hutchinson. That worked out well, as Hutchinson has racked up 5.5 sacks to go along with a pair of interceptions and one fumble recovery.
But that wasn’t the only first-round pick for Detroit.
The Lions also had the No. 12 overall pick by virtue of trades with the Los Angeles Rams and Minnesota Vikings. They used that pick on speedy Alabama wide Receiver Jameson Williams. Williams made 79 catches for 1,572 yards and 15 touchdowns for the Crimson Tide and proved to be one of the nation’s best deep threats.
But he suffered a torn ACL in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game against Georgia. The injury kept him out of the entire physical portion of the NFL combine and saw him drop out of the top 10 in the draft.
Williams has slowly but surely worked his way back from the injury, and now it appears he’s ready to make a full return.
Sources: the Lions are activating first-round pick Jameson Williams, the former Alabama standout WR who tore his ACL during last season’s national championship game. Williams is available to make his NFL debut Sunday vs. the Jaguars. The good day in Detroit continues.

Detroit may not be playoff bound in 2022, but it’s clear the organization is finally headed in the right direction.
