Jared Goff’s first year with the Lions was demoralizing. Although there were flashes of positivity, Detroit went 3-13 while the 27-year-old quarterback’s former team won a Super Bowl in Los Angeles.

Meanwhile, a subset of fans have not been great to his fiancée Christen Harper online.

The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model recently joined ESPN’s Rachel DeMita on the Courtside Club podcast and called out the Lions fans in her DMs for hypocrisy and exposed them for sending her death threats. Harper said that when she isn’t at the game, fans say that she isn’t supportive, and when she is at the game, they call her a “golddigger” or tell her that she needs to stop following Goff around.

“People can be crazy, people can be mean, and I think what I’ve learned is to just not listen,” she said. “At the end of the day it’s a game, and of course it’s important; for us, it’s our life, and it’s his life. But all those other people there, they’re just there for entertainment. And they’re gonna say things, and they’re drunk, and they’re whatever. So what I’ve learned is to kind of block out that noise and try to enjoy the moment because it only lasts for so long.”

And then there is the group that takes it way too far.

“I get the most death threats after a loss, my DMs just blow up with, like, crazy stuff,” Harper said.

While it isn’t right, Harper has learned to deal with the crazy people who say nasty things to her online.

“People can be crazy, people can be mean, and I think what I’ve learned is to just not listen,” she says.

Unfortunately, this does not apply only to Lions fans. It is league-wide and extends beyond football.

In response to the clip of Harper on DeMita’s podcast, multiple wives or girlfriends of pro athletes agreed. Brooks Koepka’s wife Jena Sims even commented “I feel this deep in my soul.”
