After the Philadelphia Eagles’ loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during the NFC Wild Card game earlier in the year, reports indicated that beloved future Hall of Fame center Jason Kelce was going to retire.

Recent indications from the Kelce family, however, suggest that perhaps the longtime Eagles center, who has been with the team since being drafted in the sixth round of the 2011 NFL Draft.

“I’ll tell you what, I think it’s still up in the air whether or not he’s going to continue to play football,” Travis Kelce told viral 11-year-old reporter Jeremiah Fennell at the start of Super Bowl week.

Travis made similar comments about his brother’s potential retirement on a recent episode of their New Heights podcast, implying that a final decision has not been made.

Even Jason himself is beginning to publicly waffle, as he made comments about not wanting to retire while at the Pro Bowl in Orlando over the weekend.

In a video posted to Twitter, a football fan can be heard saying to the elder Kelce. “Please don’t retire, for the love of football, please don’t,” to which Kelce responded, “I’m gonna try not to.”

This would perhaps explain why Kelce was frustrated with the media for reporting on his retirement before he could officially announce it on his own terms, perhaps suggesting that he hadn’t yet fully committed to the idea when the news became public.

Reports of Kelce’s apparent retirement certainly came as a surprise as the 36-year-old is still one of the best centers in the National Football League, as he was named to both the Pro Bowl and the All-Pro first team this season.

Over the course of his 13-year NFL career, Kelce has been named to seven Pro Bowls, six All-Pro first teams, and won a Super Bowl title with the Eagles in 2018.
