300-Pound NFL Draft Offensive Line Prospect Is So Freakishly Fast That Teams Want Him To Play Fullback

Mercer offensive lineman Jason Poe is quickly rising up NFL Draft boards. It’s not hard to see why. He is an absolute freak athlete.

Poe was a Division II All-American at Lenoir-Rhyne before transferring to Mercer. Once he joined the Bears, he made a living as a pulling guard.

If you get in Poe’s way, you are getting run over. Plain and simple.

At 6-foot-1, 300 pounds, he is such an incredible athlete that some NFL organizations have even asked him to work out as a fullback. That was the case earlier this week when he participated in Georgia’s Pro Day.

Poe put on a show and solidified himself as a legitimate offensive lineman, although it is fun to imagine him lining up in the backfield.

Mercer offensive lineman Jason Poe’s NFL Pro Day numbers were crazy:

  • Bench Press — 34 reps (92nd percentile)
  • 40-Yard Dash — 4.89 seconds (99th percentile)
  • Vertical Jump — 31.5 inches (89th percentile)
  • Broad Jump — 9 feet, 3 inches (92nd percentile)
  • 10-Yard Split — 1.72 seconds (90th percentile)

In the past, Poe has benched almost 500 pounds and power cleaned almost 400 pounds. While he might lack the ideal height for an NFL lineman, he is ridiculously athletic and incredibly light on his feet.

There is simply no denying that Poe could play a variety of different positions on the next level. He is such a versatile athlete that he could line up as a fullback and run everybody over or set up in the trenches and barrel everybody over with his low center of gravity and balance.

No matter where he ends up being drafted, Poe is going to be a prospect to watch. He is going to make an NFL roster and will quickly become a legitimate candidate to start with time to develop at whatever position he slates.
