Jay Williams Thinks The NBA Should Host The Playoffs On Cruise Ships

Look, we all want sports to return to our lives. If you’re an athlete you want to get back to doing what you do, if you’re a fan you want to watch and if you’re a broadcaster you want to broadcast. With this being the case, and while we’re all trying to come up with unique ways to get back into the swing of things as fast as possible, some ideas to achieve this are better than others.

It turns out Jay Williams has a really interesting, and rather crazy idea for the NBA playoffs.

Williams joined Golic & Wingo and explained that maybe the league could take two massive cruise ships, one for each conference, build a court on each and host the playoffs from there.

“You never really go to shore, you stay out on the cruise ships and you build two courts on those cruise ships. I know fans may not be allowed to go, but still, the broadcasting companies could actually broadcast these games, team members and their family members could be isolated to a degree for that span of 40 days, whatever it may be. Then you’re allowed to potentially have these games. You go right into the playoffs, maybe you give a week for each team to prepare, but you go right into that for the Eastern Conference and the Western Conference. Then you have a championship game on a cruise ship.”

Over the past month, there probably hasn’t been one positive thing said about a cruise ship so it would be quite the move to put NBA teams, essential personnel and their families on them for the playoffs, but hey, I guess we have to tip our cap to Williams for coming up with the out of the box idea.

Back in 2011, we did see North Carolina and Michigan State play a game on the USS Carl Vinson, which was incredible, but that was one game. Oh, plus the world wasn’t in the middle of, or perhaps in Williams’ scenario just getting over, a pandemic.
