Jay-Z Has An Insanely Expensive March Madness Pool And He’s Hitting Up Former Duke Players For Advice

It’s tourney day, bros, the first day of March Madness! I’m guessing that you’ve each filled out at least a handful of brackets, and that you’ve thrown down a little money on some bigger pools. I’ve only got three brackets this year myself, and I’m only investing about as much money as it’d cost to buy a round of beers.

Well, after seeing this news of Jay-Z’s $500,000 bracket pool I now feel like a massive bitch, and I’m wishing I’d have raised the stakes significantly. The silver lining here is that I don’t have a rolodex of former college players and current NBA players to dial up and ask for advice on my bracket, as Jay-Z did with former Duke all-star Jay Williams:

As Williams tells it, he was walking to his car when he received a call from a number he didn’t recognize. It turned out to be Mike Kyser, the president of Atlantic Records and he needed to see Williams’ bracket “ASAP,” presumably to see which teams Williams picked in the tournament. When Williams informed Kyser that he didn’t have his bracket with him at the moment, the phone call took a hard left turn.
Kyser told Williams that he was in an office pool with Jay Z and they needed help. And how much money is on the line in a Jay Z office pool? $500,000.
Rather than wait for Williams to get someplace where he can send the bracket, Kyser put Jay Z on the phone and as Williams tells it, they three of them spent the next half-hour discussing the bracket.

From the way Williams tells it, if Jay-Z wins his $500,000 bracket Jay Williams will be getting a cut of those winnings, which could end up being a pretty fat pay day given that all Jay Williams had to do was talk on the phone for thirty minutes with none other than Jay-Z.
