There were probably a lot of college football fans out there who assumed the transfer portal craziness was nearing its end once Caleb Williams finally made his decision. It turns out it’s not even close to over. Today, it was reported that Arizona State quarterback Jayden Daniels intends to enter the transfer portal.

The decision comes as a surprise to Sun Devil fans after Daniels announced back in December that he would be returning for his senior season at ASU. Now it looks like he’ll be searching for a team that can do more for his draft stock in that senior season.
The former 4-star recruit is sure to drum up interest in the transfer portal. As a California native, he could stick around in the PAC-12 with UCLA or Cal, but could be target for teams across the nation.
The situation isn’t nearly as promising for Arizona State. Daniels suddenly deciding to leave obviously raises concerns about the current investigation of the ASU football program.
The Sun Devil quarterback room is also shockingly low on experience. They have Trenton Bourguet and Finn Collins returning from last year, but they’ve never served as starters. Bennett Meredith will join the squad as an incoming freshman. They also added Paul Tyson as a transfer, but he has only ever been a backup at Alabama.
Maybe they can attract JT Daniels back to the PAC-12, but for right now it looks like Tyson would be the guy for Arizona State.
One thing’s for sure, the transfer portal still has some surprises in store for college football fans.
