An Emotional Jaylen Brown Speaks About Playing Game The Day After Learning That His Best Friend Had Died

Jaylen Brown scored 22 points in one of the best games in his young career as the Celtics were able to pull off a comeback win against the defending champion Golden State Warriors. Before his impressive game on the court, Brown was informed last night that he had lost one of his closest friends from high school, Trevin Steede.

An emotional Brown addressed the media after the game and spoke about the emotions he dealt with tonight while also honoring his close friend.

“My best friend passed last night,” Brown said. “It was tough to kind of accept it. Everybody was kind of in shock. But I knew coming into today that he would have wanted me to play. It was hard getting my thoughts together, but after talking to his mom and his family, they inspired me to come out and play. I wasn’t in any shape to come out. I didn’t want to leave my room. But they inspired me to come out and play. And I came out and played in his spirit today. My teammates held me up and we pulled it out.”

Brown also dedicated an Instagram post to his fallen friend hours before tonight’s game.

I understand my brother and I will miss you so much.. you were there with me from day 1, and I know you still are .. I know in my heart you found the peace you were looking for, and that’s all that matters 🙌🏾 rest easy my G !! I got your back I promise 🙏🏾

Prayers up for Trevin Steede and his family
