Last NBA offseason was a big one for stars signing sizable contract extensions.

There were a handful of players that got rookie max extensions.

Steph Curry and Zach Lavine both signed extensions for more than $40 million per year.

The Suns have 3 players on their roster right now who got sizable extensions last summer. Kevin Durant, Deandre Ayton, and Bradley Beal all got huge deals a year ago, but Durant and Beal both signed theirs with other teams.

Nikola Jokic even became the league’s highest paid player during that offseason.

This offseason has been quieter on that front.

There have been a few rookie max deals signed, but the only big veteran deal had been Joel Embiid getting just over $53 million per year.

That changed today.

According to NBA insider Shams Charania, Jaylen Brown agreed to a 5-year, $304 million supermax deal with the Boston Celtics.

The deal is the richest in NBA history, paying him an average of just over $60 million per year. It is also fully guaranteed and comes with a trade kicker.

The pressure is officially on for Jaylen Brown to help deliver a ring to the city of Boston.

In the last couple of seasons, the Celtics have been to an NBA Finals and then fell one game short of returning when they lost an Eastern Conference Finals series where they were massive favorites.

This offseason, the Boston Celtics. made a big addition to their roster when they traded for Kristaps Porzingis and now they’ve handed Brown a massive contract knowing that it won’t be long before they have to make the same kind of commitment to Jayson Tatum.

The 2023-24 season will need to be a big one for Jaylen Brown and the Boston Celtics or fans will quickly begin to question this contract.
