Four-star running back Jaylen McGill has reopened his recruitment following a brief commitment to Rutgers. The prospect from South Carolina is considered one of the top players in the state. He’s starting to see more interest ahead of his senior season.

After backing out of his pledge with the Scarlet Knights, the tailback twisted the knife further. McGill stomped on the school’s grave shortly after his rejection.

The 2026 recruit boasts offers from Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Florida State, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia Tech among others. In-state program South Carolina has also extended a scholarship.

McGill initially committed to Rutgers in January after a recruiting trip that included a stop at Madison Square Garden.

Less than three weeks later, he reversed course. Jaylen McGill’s recruitment is now 100% open with many believing he’ll land at a school closer to home.

A recent social media post added fuel to that fire. He plans to “Put on for his city,” suggesting a return potential to the Palmetto State with his next college commitment.

From Now On Address Me As “Mr. Put On”!
I Don’t Do This Just For Me!
But For Everyone In The CITY!
Everyone Is Shining With Me!
Let’s Do It Together! IM REALLY “HIM”

McGill made things official on Wednesday in his decision to walk away from Rutgers on Wednesday. He thanked the Scarlet Knights’ coaching staff for the opportunity in that goodbye post.

The following day, he appeared to call the program poverty. The running back “liked” a comment surrounding the reopening of his recruitment on Thursday.

That remark was part of a thread on X between Rutgers and Clemson supporters. After seeing the decommitment, the Tigers fan slighted the Rutgers football program. McGill agreed!

Jaylen McGill planned on playing for the Scarlet Knights just last month. Now, it seems that bridge could be burned. With that said, he has plenty of options closer to home in the SEC and ACC. It will be interesting to see which program lands the talented rusher.
