New Washington head coach Jedd Fisch silenced some recent speculation revolving around the UCLA job opening. He reportedly spoke to the program this week despite having just accepted the Huskies‘ role.

Fisch shut the rumors of a departure down on Sunday, posting a photo of him and his wife returning home from a weekend trip.

The head coach has already stirred up college football fans this offseason with his sudden move from Arizona to Washington. After leading the Wildcats to a 10-win season, he was heard boasting about his returning production for the 2024 campaign with eyes on a playoff bid.

A few days later, he was off to Seattle, rendering those prior words meaningless.

While Arizona wasn’t happy with how things played out, Washington supporters celebrated after landing the coach that had so quickly turned around a struggling PAC 12 program.

The Wildcats went just 1-11 in Year 1 with Fisch at the helm but had done a complete 180 by Year 3, going 10-3.

So, you can imagine Husky fans’ surprise when their new leader was being linked to a new opening less than a month into his UW tenure.

Arizona beat writer Jason Scheer shot off a series of posts noting that Fisch had interviewed with UCLA.

“There is zero chance UCLA would pay Jedd Fisch’s buyout, he’s been at UW for less than a month, and this dude absolutely still interviewed for the job.”

The Bruins found themselves with an unexpected opening after Chip Kelly bolted for Ohio State. Taking a demotion to offensive coordinator, the awkward decision came after UCLA opted to keep him around for another season.

Rumors of a firing circulated after the Bruins’ 8-5 campaign, but the school ultimately opted to stick with their guy. Kelly wouldn’t return the favor!

Scheer says that Fisch became a potential target for the opening, suggesting that an interview took place in Cabo.

The head coach appeared to shut down any speculation on Sunday.

“Final minutes before heading back to SEATTLE!” Fisch wrote accompanied by a photo from his vacation stay.

Husky fans can now take a sigh of relief, not having to worry about losing their second head coach of the offseason.

While the post doesn’t rule out the possibility of an interview, it seems Fisch is locked into leading UW – for now!
