Jets Wish Player Happy Birthday 5 Hours Before Cutting Him

In a classic case of unfortunate timing, the New York Jets found themselves in an awkward spot after they wished offensive lineman Chris Glaser a happy birthday this Tuesday.

It was a well-intentioned gesture, but the timing couldn’t have been worse.

On the very same day, Glaser was among three players who got the pink slip and were released from the Jets’ practice squad.

The person managing the team’s social media accounts clearly didn’t get the memo in time. Just hours before the unfortunate news broke, the Jets had posted a birthday shoutout to Glaser on their Instagram page.

There’s no need to suspect any foul play here. Wishing a player a happy birthday is a routine task for social media managers.

It’s pretty clear that the individual behind the Instagram post was blissfully unaware that Glaser’s tenure with the team was hanging by a thread.

It’s worth noting that Glaser might not be bidding farewell to the Jets forever. The undrafted free agent from Virginia has had his fair share of ups and downs with New York’s practice squad, so a return in the future isn’t out of the question.

Regrettably, this isn’t an isolated incident in the NFL

The Browns found themselves in a similar pickle a few weeks ago, and the Packers had their own share of mistimed birthday wishes a few months back.

Seems like timing isn’t always on the side of these social media handlers in the sports world.
