Green Bay Packers made a unusual move on Friday, as they wished outside linebacker Jonathan Garvin a happy 24th birthday in the morning, only to release him a few hours later.

Jonathan Garvin was a seventh-round pick for the Packers in the 2020 NFL Draft and had been with the team for three seasons.

During his time with the Packers, he appeared in 38 games, contributing with 32 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and seven quarterback hits.

The Packers’ move to release Garvin on his birthday highlights the harsh reality of the business side of football.

Despite his efforts on the field, Green Bay is currently well-stocked at the outside linebacker position, particularly with the presence of starters Rashan Gary and Preston Smith. Additionally, the team drafted Lukas Van Ness in the first round of the 2023 Draft.
