While Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love and his wife Ronika got their laughs in at the expense of NFL referees over Halloween, it could be the league that winds up laughing last.
The Packers have had a contentious relationship with referees of late, particularly after a Week 7 loss to the Detroit Lions.
“I don’t know how the NFL’s going to treat it, but I’m not a big fan of the refs right now,” Love’s teammate Xavier McKinney said after the loss. “I don’t think it’s great officiating, if I’m being completely honest. I think it’s bulls— a lot of the times.”
The league fined McKinney $25,000 for those comments, and now Love may be facing a similar fine.
Jordan Love And His Wife Dressed Up As Blind Refs For Halloween
Love and his wife, Ronika Stone, showed up to the Packers’ Halloween party sporting referee outfits with the inclusion of glasses and canes, with the insinuation being that the refs were blind.
Stone then posted a video of her and Love in costume on her TikTok account.
One commenter pointed out that Love could face a fine for the costume. But Stone replied that they were simply dressed as “Foot Locker employees.”
That excuse may have worked had she and Love not both thrown flags during the video.
Last year, the NFL fined Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua $25,000 for criticizing officials during a podcast appearance. So there’s precedent for a potential fine for Love, even if he wasn’t acting in an official team capacity.
While dressing up as blind referees may have seemed like a fun, easy, and cheap costume idea, it may now become far more expensive for the Packers’ star signal caller.
