The New York Jets have been a pleasant surprise so far this season. A large part of that is the young prospects living up to the hype. New York is shaping up to be a juggernaut on the defensive side of the ball. Sauce Gardner has been amazing to begin his career. So much so, the rookie cornerback should be considered a DROY candidate right now.

Jets Rookie CB Sauce Gardner Already Deserves The DROY

Sauce Gardner is dominating for New York right now. So much so, there is a bonkers stat that proves he deserves the DROY right now. According to Mike Renner, the Jets’ rookie cornerback, “has allowed only 127 yards through five games. That’s only six more yards than the last cornerback drafted top-five (Jeff Okudah) allowed in his first career start (121).”

Gardner is on another level right now. It appears the Jets got a stud at cornerback because this kid is proving he’s the real deal. Sauce Gardner has brought the sauce so far and it looks like he’s here for the long haul.

New York’s defense is shaping up nicely and could become a legitimate problem with Sauce Gardner leading the way. Quinnen Williams and Carl Lawson are a great duo at the defensive line. Additionally, CJ Mosely has been consistent as a linebacker and Lamarcus Joyner is a standout safety.

Keep an eye out for this Jets team. If all of their prospects can develop into stars, then New York could finally get out of the slump it has been in for well over a decade.
