When Jim Boeheim retires, he will go down as one of the greatest college basketball coaches of all time. He has over 1000 career wins and 34 NCAA Tournament appearances, all at Syracuse.

Boeheim even brought a national title to Central New York in 2003, when Carmelo Anthony, Hakim Warrick, and Gerry McNamara led Syracuse to a title. And, they’ve been to five final fours since Boeheim took over in 1976.

But, the program has taken a step back recently. The program hasn’t advanced past the sweet sixteen since 2013, and they missed the tournament altogether last year. This year, they sit at 14-10 and look to be in a position to miss the tournament again.

But, as always, it’s never Boeheim’s fault. The notorious whiner decided to blame NIL for his program’s shortcomings.

The quote reads, in full:

“This is an awful place we’re in in college basketball,” he said. “Pittsburgh bought a team. OK, fine. My [big donor] talks about it, but he doesn’t give anyone any money. Nothing. Not one guy. Our guys make like $20,000. Wake Forest bought a team. Miami bought a team. … It’s like, ‘Really, this is where we are?’ That’s really where we are, and it’s only going to get worse.”

But, former Pitt star and assistant coach and current Rutgers assistant coach Brandin Knight called Boeheim out in a big way.

Yikes.

I’m sure Boeheim will complain about this, too.
