Jim Harbaugh trying to leave Michigan for an NFL job was this offseason’s worst kept secret. Unfortunately for Harbaugh, he didn’t end up landing any of the available head coaching jobs in the NFL. That left him to awkwardly return to Michigan.

When he returned, he proclaimed that he was in it for the long haul at Michigan, but his NFL pursuits seemingly came with consequences. His offensive coordinator, Josh Gattis, left for Miami shortly after Harbaugh announced his return.

In spite of this departure and questions about how he handled the offseason, Harbaugh isn’t saying he’s sorry for trying to leave or for deciding to come back to Michigan according to his comments the “In The Trench” podcast.

It’s an odd stance to take on the situation. He basically just told all of the kids he’s recruited in recent years that he’s not sorry for trying to abandon them with no notice.

While this comment seems like an odd choice, nothing about the way he has handled this offseason was enough to prevent Michigan from giving him a raise and a contract extension. Harbaugh will now make at least $7 million dollars this year with bonuses potentially increasing his pay to over $10 million.

It would appear that both Jim Harbaugh and the University of Michigan are okay with how this offseason played out. Now we’ll just have to wait and see if the rest of the coaching staff, the players, and future recruits feel the same way.
