Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh is lifted off the ground by offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore after Michigan won the College Football Playoff national championship game against Washington at NRG Stadium in Houston on Monday, Jan. 8, 2024.

Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh played absolutely no role in helping Paige Shiver get an abortion after she allegedly became pregnant with the child of former Michigan coach Sherrone Moore.

Reporter Justin Spiro had previously claimed that text messages between Shiver and Moore, which were recently made available to the University of Michigan athletic department, showed that “Harbaugh arranged a visit to a women’s health clinic that culminated in an abortion for Shiver.”

However, Spiro’s story now notes that “according to the messages, Shiver told Moore that Harbaugh was unaware the assistance involved an abortion.”

When first reached for comment, Harbaugh’s lawyer, Tom Mars, initially told Spiro, “Don’t take this personally, but you should see a mental health specialist.”

Jim Harbaugh Has Been Very Public In His Anti-Abortion Stances

The idea that Harbaugh may have aided in obtaining an abortion with the help of Moore, his former assistant, who later became the Wolverines’ head coach and continued an illicit afair with Shiver, which ended with him being fired and charged with stalking the ex-staffer, is scandalous enough as is.

But the matter becomes even more notable when you note Harbaugh’s prior stances on abortion.

“I tell our players, our staff members. I encourage them if they have a pregnancy that wasn’t planned, to go through with it, go through with it. Let that unborn child be born, and if at that time, you don’t feel like you can care for it, you don’t have the means or the wherewithal, then Sarah and I will take that baby,” Harbaugh told ESPN in 2022.

“I believe in having the courage to let the unborn be born,” he stated at a “Right to Life” event in Plymouth, Michigan, the week prior. “I love life (and) I believe in having a loving care and respect for life and death. My faith and my science are what drive these beliefs in me.”

But Harbaugh has remained consistent, and Mars made sure to remind everyone of that fact.

“After stating that ‘Jim Harbaugh helped arrange an abortion procedure for Shiver,’ @justinspiro revised his so-called ‘news story’ to make clear that his initial version was patently false,” Mars posted on X.

If Harbaugh were truly unaware of why Shiver needed the visit, it does take him off the hook a bit for any presumed association with the procedure.
