Jimmy Garoppolo and the San Francisco 49ers moved to 5-4 on the season after beating the Chargers on Sunday night. Garoppolo took over for an injured Trey Lance in Week 2 of the season. He actually earned a small fortune for winning Game 2 and he’s since earned a lot more money in bonuses.
By playing 25% of the snaps in Sunday’s win, Jimmy Garoppolo secured another $350,000 bonus and he did it without contributing much. And by not contributing much, Jimmy gained a lot of attention for a quasi-embarrassing stat that has him in the NFL record books.
Jimmy Garoppolo is virtually UNSTOPPABLE in games where he does NOT throw a touchdown. He holds a 10-2 record in games where he failed to throw a touchdown. This means that Jimmy has completed 12 NFL games where he failed to register a TD but is still somehow the starter in San Francisco…

It isn’t just that Jimmy Garoppolo holds the best QB record for games without throwing a TD, he OWNS that record for now:
Best winning percentage for QB in SB era when not throwing TD pass (min 10 starts w/out TD, playoffs included):
Jimmy Garoppolo 10-2, .833
Lamar Jackson 8-3, .727
Jalen Hurts 7-3, .700
Pat Haden 15-9-1, .620
Roger Staubach 20-13, .606
Earl Morrall 9-6, .600— Josh Dubow (@JoshDubowAP) November 14, 2022
Lamar Jackson is 2 wins away from Catching Jimmy G’s record and Jalen Hurts is 3. Smart money would say those two quarterbacks likely have a longer future in the NFL right now than Garoppolo. But stranger things have happened…
NFL fans had jokes as news of Jimmy Garoppolo’s 10-2 record in games without a TD was spread around:

But everyone keeps telling me Wins and losses aren't a QB stat

An excellent reminder that wins are not a QB stat. https://t.co/qej7wxzF99

The 49ers have games left against Arizona, New Orleans, Miami, Tampa Bay, Seattle, Washington, and Las Vegas. Here is to hoping that Jimmy G can extend his bizarre record even futher.
