National Champion quarterback JJ McCarthy is already a legend in the state of Michigan for life. That’s what happens when you bring home your school’s first full national title since the advent of color television.

The true junior decided to enter the NFL Draft, despite having another year of eligibility remaining. Right now, it seems like he’s made the right choice.

The Illinois-native has been skyrocketing up draft boards in recent weeks. Some people during the season were talking about him not even being a first-round pick. But, since the completion of the season and his performances in the College Football Playoff, his stock has soared.

Now, JJ McCarthy is routinely being mocked inside the top-ten picks in the NFL Draft, possibly as high as the top five. That may seem unbelievable to some, as there were games last season where the Michigan passing offense didn’t do much at all. Some of that was due to the fact that they didn’t necessarily need to throw the ball in a few of those games. But, sometimes they probably did need to throw it a little more and be a little better through the air, and weren’t able to.

Still, on the year, he threw for just shy of 3,000 yards and 22 touchdowns against just 4 interceptions. For his career, he had 44 touchdowns and 9 interceptions.

JJ McCarthy is doing some press at the NFL Combine this week, and he was asked what NFL receivers he’d most like to throw to.

That’s a good list, though Jaxon Smith-Njigba sticks out like a sore thumb. JSN was JJ McCarthy’s rival at Ohio State, and isn’t on the level of those other guys But, McCarthy said he respected how JSN played in the snow when McCarthy was a freshman at Michigan.

And, all three of those guys play for teams that are potentially in the market for quarterbacks. Was that intentional on JJ’s part?

McCarthy does plan on throwing at the NFL Combine on Saturday.
