There aren’t many things sports fans love more than overanalyzing tiny details in an attempt to get some insight into what’s going on in a player’s head, and if you’re one of the many people who put a ton of stake in minor tweaks to social media bios, you’ll probably be intrigued by a recent development involving Joel Embiid.

Fans of the Philadelphia 76ers have spent more than a decade Trusting The Process that former GM Sam Hinkie positioned as the key to turning things around when he stepped into the role in 2013.

While he hasn’t been with the team since 2016, that philosophy is still a rallying cry for players and supporters alike—although you could argue The Process leaves plenty to be desired based on the team’s serial inability to make a deep playoff run despite punching its ticket to the postseason every year since 2017.

There isn’t a single member of the 76ers who’s aware of those struggles quite like Joel Embiid, who’s had a front-row seat to the franchise’s ups and downs since he was selected by Philadelphia with the third pick in the 2014 NBA Draft.

The team has done what it can to get their superstar the supporting cast he deserves, but those efforts have been fairly underwhelming.

The Ben Simmons Experiment obviously didn’t pan out as hoped, and while it seemed like there was a chance James Harden could give the 76ers the spark they needed, his relationship with the team (and president Daryl Morey) has deteriorated to seemingly unsustainable levels of enmity.

In 2021, Embiid signed a supermax extension with the team that will theoretically see him remain in Philadelphia until the end of the 2026-27 campaign, but plenty of people are worried he may be growing dissatisfied with his current situation after he recently decided to remove the city and a reference to The Process from his Twitter bio.

While some people may not see any major reason to panic over a relatively minor update, that hasn’t stopped plenty of others from sounding the alarm.

It’s worth noting the big man’s username currently reads Joel “Troel” Embiid, so there’s a solid chance he’s living up to that nickname because he knows people won’t be able to resist the urge to dissect every move he makes.

I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
