Hugh Freeze is one of the most active college football personalities on social media for all of the wrong reasons and it made Lane Kiffin embarrassed on his behalf. He is not alone!

The third-year head coach at Auburn, who previously coached at Ole Miss, simply cannot help himself.

In fact, I would venture to guess that I would have received a direct message from Freeze in response to this article if I was not typing this sentence right now. It is as if he is constantly searching his own name on X, formerly known as Twitter, and welcomes the opportunity to chirp back at folks online. His unusual behavior dates back to his time in Oxford, at least, as early/late as 2012.

This particular exchange stems from the NFL Draft in 2016 and the debacle surrounding Laremy Tunsil.

Laremy Tunsil was set up to fail.

Secret Base, a subset of SB Nation, detailed the entire story from start to finish in a really fantastic four-part documentary series called ‘Foul Play.’ The gist is this:

Tunsil’s social media accounts were hacked just hours before he was going to be drafted in the Top Three, if not No. 1 overall. A video emerged that showed the big left tackle smoking out of a gas mask.

In a parallel incident, the hacker (who was later revealed to be a disgruntled “business manager”) posted a series of text messages to Tunsil’s Instagram account. One screenshot showed him ask Ole Miss’ assistant athletic director for money to pay his rent and his mother’s electric bill. That, of course, was illegal at the time.

To make matters worse, Tunsil’s agent and council allowed him to speak with the press after sliding way down to No. 13. It was a terrible idea.

Of course, most of the questions for Tunsil were about the gas mask and leaked texts. And when asked about the conversation surrounding rent, he admitted that he took money from an Ole Miss staffer while a member of the school. His response, among other things, ultimately led to an NCAA investigation that left the Rebels with a two-year bowl ban and a modern day death penalty.

Hugh Freeze got defensive!

Two years after the unfortunate fiasco, legendary youth football coach @3YearLetterman (a well-known internet personality) tweeted something about what went down on draft night in 2016. It trigged Tunsil’s college head coach and prompted him to reach out via direct messages.

Freeze, who was unemployed at the time, hit Three Year Letterman with his classic tag line “Bless you brother.” Many, many fans and analysts have received a similar message from him on multiple occasions.

(Myself included!)

From that point, Freeze proceeded to get extremely upset over what was a pretty obvious troll attempt. He often does.

Here is the full exchange:

And that was neither the first time nor the last time that Freeze hopped into Three Year Letterman’s DMs!

Lane Kiffin caught wind of the exchange from 2018 on Friday night and caught extreme second-hand humiliation. The current head coach at Ole Miss, who is 3-0 against Freeze since taking over his former program, responded with one simple emoji: 🤦‍♂️

Facepalm is right!

Hugh Freeze is a grown man who simply cannot stop himself from searching his own name and replying to the people who criticize him in any way, shape or form. It is rather embarrassing. Lane Kiffin agrees.
