Texas A&M wide receiver Evan Stewart just became the hottest name on the transfer portal market. The pass catcher will immediately garner nationwide interest from college football’s top programs.

The news broke Tuesday about the pass catcher’s decision and an exit from College Station appears imminent.

Should Stewart ultimately transfer out of Aggieland, Texas A&M would lose one of its top offensive weapons.

Stewart was a top prospect in the program’s historic (and expensive) 2022 recruiting class. The Ags landed 18 Top 100 recruits in the cycle, boasting the best group in the history of the recruiting rankings, but the excitement for the future quickly wore thin.

Texas A&M went 5-7 in 2022, then 7-5 in 2023. Jimbo Fisher was fired midseason, and if Stewart does opt to leave, exactly 50% of those Top 100 prospects will no longer be in College Station.

Stewart wasn’t surprised by the exodus, making some interesting comments on the NIL situation at A&M in early December. Just two weeks later, he’s become a part of that group.

One rival wide receiver might not be shocked by the news of Stewart’s departure. In fact, he predicted it would happen in the summer of 2022.

“He gonna be in that portal,” Cook said in an offseason workout. “Y’all are gonna see us on the same team.”

Cook, who committed to Texas in the cycle after Stewart, then went on to criticize the Texas A&M offense in the social media video.

The two players’ teams have gone in completely opposite directions, with the Longhorns gearing up for a Rose Bowl appearance against Washington. A national title still remains on the table.

The Aggies, meanwhile, had championship hopes upon signing that 2022 class but what’s now left is a shell of itself.
