It has been nearly two years since we’ve seen Jon Jones step inside the Octagon, but that hasn’t kept him from making headlines. There have been a couple of run-ins with the law since his last fight. There was that time he tried to stop rioters in downtown Albuquerque. There has been a lot of back and forth with potential opponents.

That back and forth has led to speculation about fights with current UFC champions Israel Adesanya and Francis Ngannou, but neither fight ever materialized. Now Jon Jones is back to teasing potential super fights on Twitter and this latest one makes a ton of sense.

Many fans were hoping to see Jones take on the winner of January’s title fight between Francis Ngannou and Cyril Gane, but a knee injury will keep Ngannou out for the cage for an extended period of time following his win.

That leaves the heavyweight division likely looking at another interim belt being created. While there may be fighters in the weight class who will feel they deserve the shot more Jones, a fight between him and Stipe Miocic is one of the biggest fights the UFC could put together right now.

Stipe holds the UFC record for consecutive heavyweight title defenses and holds wins over 5 former UFC champions. He has only lost to Francis Ngannou, Junior Dos Santos, and Daniel Cormier over the last 9 years and also holds a win over each of those men.

Jones has never really lost a fight in his career. The lone loss on his record came in a fight he was absolutely dominating and was disqualified well after the fight should have been stopped.

He also holds his division’s record for consecutive title defenses and absolutely ran through the best the UFC had to offer at his peak. A fight between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic would be a huge moment for the UFC and would likely make them a ton of money.
