Jon Rahm had some strong words for the golf world on Monday. Those comments are now making their way around social media.

The golfer was critical of the world rankings in a recent interview, and he went as far as to say that he’s the sport’s best player despite his position in the standings.

There are no doubting Rahm’s talents. He most recently picked up a win at the Sentry Tournament of Champions in Hawaii. His -27 final score included a field-best 10 under in the final round of the tournament as he completed a comeback on Sunday afternoon.

Following that victory, he made his rounds with the media. This week, he told James Corrigan of the Daily Telegraph that he should be higher up in the world rankings.

“Had they not changed the world ranking points, I would be pretty close to [the world No. 1 ranking] right now. In my mind, I feel like since August I’ve been the best player in the world.”

The change that Jon Rahm talks about was one made in August of 2022. That change was meant to “rid the system of bias and inject new features into its algorithm to improve its accuracy and relevancy.”

The change drastically affects those that play predominantly internationally, where two of Rahm’s three most recent wins have come (Acciona Open de Espana, DP World Tour Championship). A further breakdown of the adjustments is detailed here.

His most recent performances have helped him climb into fifth in those world rankings, but he believes he could be higher had the changes not been made.

Many on social media are reacting to his latest comments.

One fan believes he’s one of the top players, right alongside Rory McIlroy, saying, “Hard to say he’d take it over Rory’s summer/fall. Two best swings in the game IMO.”

Another person wrote, “He would’ve been close. And he has the attitude of a winner. And he backs it up, props to him,” agreeing with Jon Rahm’s criticism.

Should he continue to play at this level, Rahm’s chances of reaching No. 1 are high.
