Whispers from the golf world gave been growing increasingly louder with the latest rumors placing Jon Rahm on track to join LIV Golf if certain accommodations can be met.

Last month, Eddie Pepperell spoke on The Chipping Forecast about Jon Rahm’s connection to LIV Golf but at that time it was in relation to earnings. Pepperell claimed that LIV Golf approached 15 players this year and asked them for their number and Jon Rahm’s number was so high it was outright rejected and everyone moved on.

Jon Rahm made over $20 million on the PGA Tour last year alone so one would have to think his figure for LIV Golf was considerably higher. The latest rumors from Bunkered on X is Rahm’s negotiation with LIV is for a whopping $600M contract.

Flash forward to this week, and FlushingItGolf is reporting this rumor they ‘sat on for weeks,’ a rumor that was apparently the talk of the DP World Tour last week. They say:

“Jon Rahm is in late stage talks to join LIV Golf and it’s believed the hold up is not financial, but is due to him wishing to modify the format of the league.

Any changes would need the approval of all team captains as well as the league themselves. This is making negotiations difficult, but they are intensifying.”

FlushingItGolf went on to add “it is understood that if a deal is reached he would join Sergio Garcia and Eugenio Chacarra on the Fireballs, with David Puig taking the 4th spot to make an all Spanish team.”

As for the legitimacy and weight of this rumor, they went on to say “It’s important to stress that this is NOT a done deal yet, and LIV are officially denying it. But, from exhaustive conversations with various sources, it’s believed there are other top players in negotiations too.” Adding that the rumor has been around for weeks but picked up a LOT of steam at and after the DP World Tour Championship and it’s been reported in the Spanish media.

Having been on the ground floor through the first mass exodus of PGA Tour stars to LIV Golf I’ll give my two cents on this. Rumors are rumors and they’re wrong more often than right. But when the right people start sharing those rumors because they carry enough weight then those rumors are certainly worth paying attention to, as is the case here.

It does feel as if Jon Rahm, ranked #3 in the world and one of the biggest stars in golf, would be LIV Golf’s perfect next fit. But it remains to be seen how the PGA Tour x LIV Golf merger will play out and what it would even mean for Jon Rahm to move to LIV Golf if those two entities will be partnering in some capacity, but that’s an entirely different discussion and one that will play out over a long period of time.

Would Jon Rahm be a great fit for LIV Golf? Absolutely. He’s a global superstar in the game of golf, particularly in Europe. LIV Golf just announced their 2024 schedule and Andalucia, Spain is on the schedule for July 12-14 followed by an event in the United Kingdom.

Here’s the 2024 LIV Golf schedule which was just released moments ago

There are a lot of familiar events on that schedule. April 5-7 ‘USA’ is intriguing though…
