2021 U.S. Open champion Jon Rahm took the podium on Tuesday morning ahead of this week’s major championship at Oakmont Country Club and was asked all sorts of questions about this week. Those questions, of course, also extended to Jon Rahm’s recent form on the LIV Golf Tour.
After finishing tied for 8th last week at LIV Golf Virginia’s event held at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club, Jon Rahm extended his perfect streak of finishing inside the top 10 in LIV events. He is now a perfect 21-for-21 of finishing in the top 10 on the LIV Golf Tour since joining.
While that is, absolutely, an impressive feat, Jon Rahm himself admitted it means less because finishing inside the top 10 is easier on the LIV Tour. It’s a simple numbers game. There are ~54 players any given week on LIV versus say, 156 who will tee it up at Oakmont this week in the U.S. Open.
Jon Rahm’s response to being asked about his top 10’s by Dan Rapaport? He said “I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t easier to get the top 10s with a smaller field.” Rahm also said “I would happily trade a bunch of them for more wins, that’s for sure… But I keep putting myself in good positions.”
Rahm continued, saying “I’m a realist in this case. I’ve been playing really good golf, yes. I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t easier to have top 10’s with a smaller field. That’s just the truth. Had I been playing full field events, would I have top 10’s every single week? No. But I’ve been playing good enough to say that I would most likely be inside the top-30 every single time.”
So much talk about how to contextualize Jon Rahm’s 21/21 top 10s on LIV but only one man’s lived it on both sides so I asked him.

Rahm’s press conference was pretty good from start to finish. Early on, someone asked him about Father’s Day and how it was winning the U.S. Open but he pointed out that Father’s Day is a different day in Spain and the U.S. Open sort of overshadowed that holiday for him at the time.
Here’s Rahm’s full press conference:
The discussion about length is great. Rahm smashes the ball. He also has an incredible short game. I’d sell my soul for his iron play. He will definitely be a contender this week if Rahm is able to keep the ball in the fairway.
Jon Rahm tees off at 1:14 pm on Thursday with Dustin Johnson and Jordan Spieth, one of the top groupings of the week.
