Jorge Masvidal Says He Would Come Out Of Retirement To Fight Ben Askren Again

Former UFC stars Jorge Masvidal and Ben Askren don’t particularly like one another.

That much was evident when they stepped into the cage to fight each other at UFC 239 in 2019.

But the level of vitriol was hard to determine, especially after Masvidal’s now historic flying knee to knock out Askren in just five seconds.

Both fighters have since retired. But that doesn’t seem to have cooled the feud between the two.

Masvidal told TMZ Sports that he isn’t considering a return to MMA. But he did say that he would return for a boxing match, especially one against Askren.

“I don’t plan on fighting anybody any time soon but maybe like in a boxing match, I’d come out and just smack Nate [Diaz] up later on in life or something like that,” he said. “Maybe me and Jake [Paul], something in the future, I don’t know, man. But as of right now, I’m just doing the promoting thing.

“…I heard Ben Askren said he’d come out of retirement to fight me,” Masvidal continued. “I was like, ‘This dude…’ He wanted MMA but for his sake, I’d do boxing [if I were him] so I can’t knee him in the face, it’s illegal. Duh. Come on, man (laughs).

“Hey, Ben. I’ll beat your a** with both hands behind my back. Ben’s so bad at boxing. He’s the one that said it. Look, Ben, I’ll only give you the rematch in boxing, m***********. People will tune in because I can’t knee him in the face, right? Maybe Ben can ‘get his way now.’ Hey, Ben, kiss my a**, you coming out of retirement. I’ll send you right back into it, m***********. This guy, bro. They shouldn’t have shown me that comment, you corny m************.”

That sounds like a challenge to us. And Askren said it’s one he’ll take…sort of.

Askren posted a picture to his Twitter (erm, X) account of a text sent to UFC president Dana White asking for a fight aganst Masvidal. Though Askren says he’d only accept should Masvidal agree to an MMA fight.

So it doesn’t sound like this one is all that close to happening.
