The Las Vegas Raiders have found their new head coach, agreeing to terms with former New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels on Sunday morning. The move fills the vacancy left by former head coach Jon Gruden, who resigned amid an email scandal midway through the 2021 season.

McDaniels, the offensive mastermind behind New England’s offense with Tom Brady under center, will take over a core group of playmakers that includes Derek Carr, Hunter Renfrow, Bryan Edwards, and Darren Waller. Las Vegas made the playoffs despite having to make a coaching change in the middle of the year, showing that there’s certainly talent on the roster.

While some may be happy with the hire, one current Raiders offensive starter has his reservations.

Starting running back Josh Jacobs posted his reaction to the news of the hire on social media, and he doesn’t seem completely sold on the idea of McDaniels running the show in Las Vegas next year.

Jacobs isn’t the only one who’s not sure if the hire will work out. Raiders fans are hesitant to call McDaniels the savior after seeing him lead division foe Denver for the 2009 and 2010 campaigns. In those two seasons, the Broncos went just 11-17 under McDaniels’ leadership.

There was also an incident with the Colts that saw McDaniels back out of a head coaching contract at the last minute to return to New England as an offensive coordinator.

Time will tell whether or not McDaniels can keep the Raiders competitive in the AFC West. His new running back, Jacobs, will have a lot to do with the success of his tenure in Las Vegas.
