Josh McDaniels Spoiling News Of Darren Waller’s Wedding May Have Led To Tight End’s Trade To Giants

All is not well with the Las Vegas Raiders.

In fact, it’s far from it.

The Raiders began the NFL offseason needing to figure out what to do with quarterback Derek Carr. It’s only gotten worse from there.

Las Vegas eventually cut Carr when it could not work out a trade for him. The Raiders then signed Jimmy Garoppolo to replace him when it became clear that Aaron Rodgers was New York bound.

That seemed to upset superstar wide receiver Davante Adams.

But it didn’t take long for the news to get even worse for Adams. Las Vegas traded star tight end Darren Waller to the New York Giants on Tuesday for just a third-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

That news seemed to upset yet another Raiders superstar, this time in the form of running back Josh Jacobs.

Jacobs won’t be any happier when he finds out the circumstances that appear to have led to Waller being dealt.

Vic Taffur, who covered the Raiders for The Athletic, reveals the deal may have been tied to Waller’s dissatisfaction with head coach Josh McDaniels for revealing news of his wedding to WNBA star Kelsey Plum.

The trade comes 10 days after Darren Waller’s wedding to Aces guard Kelsey Plum. The timing is only interesting because Josh McDaniels accidentally leaked the news of his wedding to reporters at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Waller was upset with McDaniels when the Las Vegas Review-Journal posted a story announcing the wedding was scheduled later in the week. The couple had not publicly announced their plans to get married,” Taffur said in a series of tweets.

Las Vegas struggled to a 6-11 record in its first season with McDaniels at the helm. Now the Raiders will look to improve upon that record without two of their most accomplished offensive players and a seemingly unsettled locker room.

Bold strategy. Let’s see how that works out for them.
