JT Daniels is on the move again.

After spending this season playing quarterback for West Virgina, Daniels has once again decided he needed to find a new team to lead from under center.

ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported last night that Daniels has decided to transfer to Rice for his 6th season in college football.

There were high hopes for Daniels when he began his college football career. Daniels was a 5-star recruit and the #2 recruit at quarterback in his class behind just Trevor Lawrence. He was ranked ahead of Tanner McKee, Matt Corral, Cameron Rising, Will Levis, Zach Wilson, and Brock Purdy.

He unfortunately hasn’t ever come very close to living up to the expectations for him.

Daniels started right away at USC and was good enough in his freshman season to hold on to the starting job in his 2nd year. However, a knee injury in the team’s first game cost him the rest of his season and Kedon Slovis grabbed a hold of the starting job while he was out.

That led him to Georgia, where he was beaten out by Stetson Bennett for the starting job in his first year with the Bulldogs. The pecking order switched at the start of his second year with the team, but he was later replaced by Bennett, who went on to lead the team to a national title.

With the Georgia job clearly belonging to Bennett, Daniels headed to West Virginia, where his struggles continued and he was eventually replaced again.

Now he’ll get a fresh start with Rice, where he will be the highest ranked recruit to ever play for the school.

Maybe this will finally be the stop where Daniels finally finds consistent success.
