56-year-old Academy Award winner Julia Roberts apparently has a lot in common with 28-year-old Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

No, we don’t mean that she too has hung out with Taylor Swift. Though she probably has at some point.

According to Roberts, she feels a “kinship” with the two-time Super Bowl champion now that she’s watched him do his thing on the Netflix documentary series Quarterback.

“I’m watching a lot of documentary things,” Roberts said on SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show this week. “I mean, I love documentaries, but I watched this documentary series, Quarterback. It has changed my life, I think. Because I’m a big football fan. But this has given me an insight, like I have so much respect right now for Patrick Mahomes, I don’t know what to do with it. There’s really not a place for me to put it on a daily basis.”

Roberts, who grew up in Smyrna, Georgia, just outside of Atlanta, also added that she is a big soccer fan and “loves” college football.

So what exactly did Patrick Mahomes do on Quarterback that so impressed the 4-time Oscar nominee?

“The quarterback, you think like, ‘Oh, he shows up and throws the ball around.’ I mean, that’s what I thought,” she explained. “That’s wrong.

“I felt a kinship because I feel like my homework when I’m working it never ends. There’s always some other elements, some other thing to learn, to figure out, to get ready for to, you know, whatever it is, and so I kind of felt like I understand you, Patrick Mahomes.”

Julia Roberts also revealed that her favorite team is the 49ers “of course,” but the Chiefs “are right behind” them.

Then, putting a dagger in the hearts of New York Jets fans everywhere, during the interview Julia told producer and director (and Jets fan) Sam Esmail, “If you’re going to stay a Jets fan you will suffer your lifetime.”
