Julian Edelman hasn’t set foot on an NFL field since early in the 2020 season.

The last time fans saw him, he was still occupying the slot for the New England Patriots and even posted a 179-yard game in his final season, but injuries led to him heading for retirement.

Since his retirement, there have been times that fans thought he might come out of retirement to team up with Tom Brady in Tampa Bay.

That call never came, but according to Edelman, he has gotten the call from elsewhere in the league. In fact, he told 98.5 The Sports Hub that he has been called by 3 different teams about making a return to the NFL this year.

Edelman also added that the only way he would come out of retirement would be if it was to play for the New England Patriots and even then it would only be if they were a contender.

It looks like we can safely assume that Edelman won’t be returning to the NFL this year because most wouldn’t consider the Patriots to be a contender right now. The Patriots currently hold a 7-6 record, which puts them right on the edge of the playoff picture.

The Patriots’ offense certainly has issues this season, but it seems unlikely that Edelman is the man to fix them.

At 36 years old, he doesn’t have long to wait for the Patriots, so it seems likely that we’ve seen the last of Julian Edelman in the league, but it appears that isn’t because of a lack of interest.
