Justin Trudeau chose Katy Perry over Canada. The former prime minister skipped out on his home country’s first-ever World Cup match on home soil to watch his girlfriend perform prior to the United States Men’s National Team opener in Los Angeles.

Make of that what you will!

For Trudeau to abandon his own country during the biggest soccer match in its history speaks loudly about his feelings toward Perry. It might also mean that he has seen the light…

Canada played its first-ever World Cup match in Canada.

Canada has participated in the FIFA Men’s World Cup three times: in 1986, in 2022 and as co-hosts in 2026. Les Rouges recorded its first-ever point at the World Cup on Friday during its first-ever match on home soil. It is now 0-1-6 all-time.

The Canadian Men’s National Team played to a draw against Bosnia-Herzegovina in front of a raucous crowd at Toronto Stadium. A sea of red completely took over the streets for the march to the stadium.

This guy might be the most Canadian Canadian to ever exist:

Toronto Stadium was at full capacity with only a small section of blue. The host city showed out to support their team.

There was, however, one notable absence. The country’s 23rd Prime Minister was not in attendance!

Justin Trudeau was in Los Angeles with Katy Perry.

Canada played to a 1-1 tie with Bosnia-Herzegovina on Friday afternoon. The United States played to a 4-1 win over Paraguay on Friday evening.

Katy Perry performed on the pitch prior to the first American match of the tournament as part of the pregame festivities.

Perry started dating Justin Trudeau shortly after her split from Orlando Bloom. They were first spotted on a dinner date together in Montreal in July 2025. Now they are dating. It’s a full-blown boyfriend-girlfriend situation.

Trudeau, who served as the Prime Minister of Canada from November 2015 to March 2025, did not attend the first World Cup match played on Canadiana soil. He flew out to Los Angeles to support Perry instead.

They watched the United States together at SoFi Stadium.

He even cheered with her after an American goal.

Has Trudeau been radicalized by Perry? I’d like to think so. The United States is so much better than Canada. Why wouldn’t you want to root for the Stars and Stripes?
