At 6-foot-0, 186 pounds, Kalon Barnes is the fastest cornerback in NFL history. The former Baylor Bears defensive back put up a blistering time at the NFL Combine and almost broke the all-time record.
Barnes, who also ran track for a year while in Waco, was a dual-sport superstar in high school. He won the Texas high school 100 and 200 meter titles in both 2017 and 2018 before committing to play for Baylor as a three-star prospect.
Now, four years later, Barnes is hoping to hear his name called in the middle rounds of the NFL Draft. He certainly helped his case in the 40-yard dash in Indianapolis.
In 2017, wide receiver John Ross ran the 40-yard dash in a record-setting 4.22 seconds. Barnes was .01 second away from tying the record on Sunday.
At first, it looked like Barnes was blazing fast, but not all-time fast. His second attempt clocked at an unofficial time of 4.29 seconds.
He was MOVING moving.

However, when the official time came in from the laser guns, it was even faster than initially thought. Barnes clocked a 4.23-second 40-yard dash, which is simply bananas.
With the adjustment, the Texas-native is not only the fastest defensive back to ever do it, but the second-fastest player of all-time behind only Ross. He beat former Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson, who previously sat second, by .01 to claim the No. 2 spot.

There are some things that Barnes can work on mechanically, even as a four-year starter in college, but you can’t teach speed. SHEESH.
