Kansas is a college basketball school but the Jayhawks are making a conscious effort to build up its culture surrounding the college baseball program as the game continues to grow in 2025. To do so, hoops star Hunter Dickinson helped to fuel the raucous student section at Hoglund Ballpark after they guzzled their weight in free beer at the local pub.
It was a glorious Friday in Lawrence!
Kansas began the 2025 college baseball season at 8-0 with back-to-back sweeps of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Tarleton State on the road. The Jayhawks returned home on Thursday night to face Omaha and the student section was rocking.

To keep the momentum going, athletic director Travis Goff offered to buy the first 150 hot dogs for students who showed out for Game 2 on Friday.
ATTN: KU Students
I’m buying the first round today at the ballpark!*meaning the first 150 HOT DOGS are on me.
Simply show your KU student I.D. at the main concession stand – first 150 hot dogs are free.

Dickinson, the Jayhawks’ leading scorer on the hardwood, decided to match him. Students had 300 free hot dogs waiting for them upon arrival to the ballpark. And to make it even better, Bullwinkles Bar (aka ‘The Bull’) had a few kegs on tap to wet their appetite before first pitch.

And a few students had their beers paid for !
I cannot imagine anything better if I was a 21-year-old *wink wink* college student. Free beer after class on a Friday, warm weather, and free hot dogs for dinner at a baseball game. Sounds pretty perfect to me!
Only back-to-back-to-BACK jacks can make it better.

Bringing the "left, right, left, right… sitdown" chant to baseball after strikeouts and pitching changes is brilliant and well done by the Kansas student section. This group wondered how their incredible basketball traditions might crossover here at Hoglund Ballpark. They are…

College baseball continues to grow in popularity by the day. Free beer, free hot dogs and a rowdy student section is the perfect recipe to keep that going. Take notes!
