The Dolphins fell to the Chiefs in the first round of the playoffs last season, but that wasn’t the only L they took that day thanks to a Kansas City man who allegedly jacked more than $46,000 worth of equipment from a truck outside Arrowhead Stadium during the game.

The weather was one of the biggest topics of discussion when the Kansas City Chiefs hosted the Miami Dolphins for their wild card matchup on January 14th.

The subzero temperatures didn’t prevent more than 71,000 fans from braving the cold at Arrowhead Stadium (including a number of spectators who ended up facing amputation thanks to frostbite), but if you didn’t have a ticket and found yourself in Kansas City that day, you were probably staying indoors.

However, according to The Kansas City Star , there was at least one exception in the form of a man who allegedly decided to stop by the venue before making his way into a truck the Dolphins were using to store their equipment during the showdown.

Based on charges that were recently filed by prosecutors in Jackson County, 30-year-old Kansas City resident John Brown allegedly drove his F-150 to Arrowhead prior to infiltrating a truck Miami was using to store an assortment of equipment, including bags and cases containing “football pads, pants, gloves, shoes, cold weather gear, and game film.”

The items in question were valued at a grand total of  $46,376, and it took less than a day for the police to spot a pickup truck matching the one that was captured on surveillance video with some of the gear that was lifted in the bed.

On January 17, they raided the suspect’s home and successfully recovered a number of the items that had been boosted, although they were unable to salvage some of the equipment that had been burned in a barrel outside the residence.

Brown (a convicted felon who was already at the center of an investigation concerning similar thefts in the area prior to the one that victimized the Dolphins) wasn’t home at the time. However, he was arrested after he attempted to flee a parking garage where he was cornered by law enforcement on January 24th and currently faces 20 felony charges.
