Chance Thomas is leaving Bishop Gorman.

Kansas QB commit Chance Thomas is leaving Bishop Gorman. His stay in Las Vegas will last just two games.

The decision comes after the Gaels gave junior Ace Amina the starting role. Thomas will not sit on the bench as a senior.

The quarterback will instead finish out his final season at Loudoun Sports Academy in Virginia.

The passer is one of the top signal callers in the 2027 recruiting class. He is rated by 247 Sports as a Top 30 quarterback and holds offers from Arizona, ASU, Arkansas, Duke, North Carolina, Utah, and more.

He committed to Kansas in May.

Thomas is well travelled at this point. The high school football star suited up for Western High in California as a sophomore. He announced his transfer to Bishop Gorman in the offseason.

The Gaels are the top football program in Nevada. They hold a No. 2 national ranking according to MaxPreps.

Thomas was expected to take notable snaps in Las Vegas. He was given the opportunity to win the starting role in his first season with the program. The passer was beaten out by a younger player.

Thomas played in two series during the opener; a 41-0 shutout win over Losee. He completed two passes for 21 yards and scored a rushing touchdown.

He did not play in the team’s win over St. John Bosco last week. Now, he will travel 2,400 miles across the country to wrap up his final year.

Bishop Gorman coach confirms transfer.

“Amina had won the starting job,” said coach Brent Browner. “We had to go out there and let him play. He did what he had to do, managed the ball, managed the clock, ran when he needed. He matured a lot in this game.”

“You saw a maturity level of that kid that we needed at that time.”

While he did not directly reference Chance Thomas, the Bishop Goman football coach’s words could be perceived as a jab to his backup quarterback’s mentality.

He will not battle through adversity. Thomas will transfer to a team where he’s likely guaranteed a starting role.

Loudoun is a sports academy “combines top-tier athletic training with rigorous academic programs to empower young athletes to reach their full potential.”
