There is no tem in college football that has surprised and excited fans like the Kansas Jayhawks this season.

Expectations weren’t high for a Kansas program that hadn’t won more than 3 games in a season since 2009. Their preseason win total at sportsbooks was set at 2.5 for this season.

It took them only 3 games to hit the over on that win total and they needed just 4 games to bring an end to their streak of seasons without topping 3 wins.

This past weekend they even found themselves ranked for the first time since 2009.

Unfortunately, their first game as a ranked team in over a decade didn’t go as they would have hoped. The Jayhawks lost to TCU, another surprising team from the Big 12, 38-31.

To make matters worse, their starting quarterback, Jalon Daniels, was injured during the game. Today, it was reported that the injury will cost him the rest of the season.

Jalon Daniels shoulder injury is expected to cost him the rest of the season

Daniels had been great for Kansas this year as a junior. Through the team’s first 6 games he threw for 1072 yards and 11 touchdowns and added another 341 yards and 5 touchdowns as a runner.

In his absence, the Jayhawks will turn to Jason Bean. While losing Daniels is far from ideal, Bean actually did give Kansas’ fans some hope for the rest of the season with his performance against TCU.

Bean threw for 262 yards and 4 touchdowns in relief of Daniels in that game.

They’ll get their first look at him as the starter this weekend when they take on a struggling Oklahoma.
