Kate Martin, who played alongside Caitlin Clark at Iowa, is one step closer to making the final roster for the Las Vegas Aces as a rookie in the WNBA. She also received a loud endorsement from Kelsey Plum!

It seems likely that the 23-year-old guard will be in uniform when the regular season begins on May 14, but there may be one more cut.

The reigning WNBA champions cut three players on Monday morning to trim the roster down to 11. Las Vegas also signed veteran guard Emma Cannon on Monday afternoon to make 12.

WNBA teams are allowed a league maximum of 12 players so it seems like Martin is in. However, the Aces carried only 11 players at the start of the 2023 season, so her spot is not yet official.

Martin, who actually attended the Draft to support Clark, wound up being picked No. 18 overall.

She later arrived to Sin City and made an immediate impression on her teammates. Plum, a two-time WNBA All-Star and one of the biggest names in the league, offered high praise for the rookie!

The grind is very real. Martin is confident in her talent and wants to prove the organization right.

Meanwhile, she and Caitlin Clark continue to talk every day! The latter is certain that her best friend is up to the standard that is required to play on the next level.

It is remarkably difficult to play in the WNBA, perhaps more so than any other professional sports league in the country. There are very few teams and very few roster spots.

Will Kate Martin get one? She is trending in the right direction.

Final cut day is set for May 13. Teams will have to make their final decisions in less than a week, one day prior to the first game!
