Kelly Oubre Getting Hit By A Car Is Just The Latest Evidence That The Philadelphia 76ers Are Cursed

The Philadelphia 76ers are a cursed franchise.

If there were any doubts about that, they were cleared up Saturday night when Adrian Wojnarowski reported that starting forward Kelly Oubre was hit by a car in Center City, Philadelphia and suffered significant injuries.

Thankfully, Oubre did not suffer life-threatening injuries and is in stable condition at a local hospital. But Oubre is expected to miss significant time due to his injury.

The incident could not come at a worse time for either he or the 76ers.

As ESPN’s Tim Bontemps points out, “Oubre is averaging 16.3 points and shooting 50 percent from the field this season for Philadelphia, and has been playing as well as he ever has in his nine seasons in the NBA for the Sixers this season, including starting after PJ Tucker left in the James Harden trade.”

But it’s nothing new for Sixers fans.

In fact, this is basically the norm for an organization that has seen incredible misfortune in the last decade.

Sure, you’ve had simple draft busts like Jahlil Okafor. But then there’s the case of Ben Simmons, who simply seemed to decide he didn’t want to play basketball anymore before being traded.

Or Markelle Fultz, who shot the ball well in college before coming to the NBA and literally forgetting how to shoot altogether.

Who could forget about Zhaire Smith?

The 76ers used the 16th overall pick of the 2018 NBA Draft on the freak athlete out of Texas Tech. Months later, he was in a hospital with four tubes in his stomach and chest and lost 40 pounds after an allergic reaction to something involving nuts.

Which is all to say, this is normal for the 76ers.

This is home.

The Philadelphia 76ers, despite their Eastern Conference-leading 7-1 record, are cursed.

They will likely always be cursed. And Oubre, sadly, is just the latest victim of said curse.
