It only took new Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey one day on the job to find himself in some hot water.

During his introductory press conference, Dorsey called Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson a “really quality human being.” Watson, of course, previously faced over 20 allegations of sexual misconduct/assault.

“He’s one of the premier quarterbacks in this league,” Dorsey told reporters on Monday, February 5. “And from everything I’ve heard about him, a really quality human being. So, I’m just excited about that opportunity.”

Despite the number of serious allegations that were levied against him, the Cleveland Browns traded for Watson prior to the 2022 season and gave him a fully guaranteed five-year, $230 million contract.

During the 2023 season, his first with the Browns not truncated by suspension, Watson started in six games and completed 61% of his passes for 1,115 yards, 7 touchdowns, and 4 interceptions.

While Watson’s 2023 season was cut short due to injury, the Browns were able to remain one of the better teams in the AFC as they finished the season with an 11-6 record and made the playoffs.

Before landing in Cleveland with the Browns, Dorsey was the offensive coordinator of the Buffalo Bills, although he was fired in the midst of the 2023 season and was replaced by Joe Brady.

The 28-year-old Watson was originally drafted as the #12 overall pick in the 2017 draft by the Houston Texans following a successful college career at Clemson University, where he won a national title.

Dorsey is going to be tasked with making Watson look like the Pro Bowler he was in Houston, as the 12 games he’s played for the Browns haven’t come close to justifying the massive contract they gave him.

The Browns currently boast a defense that many analysts consider to be championship-level, meaning that if Watson can improve his performance, the long down-trodden franchise could be a legitimate Super Bowl contender.
