It’s not rare for tempers to flare between athletes even when they play on the same team, but it appears tensions between a couple of football players at the University of Kentucky really boiled over based on a leaked video of a fight that unfolded in the locker room at some point last season.

Football is a sport built on a foundation of testosterone and violence, and when you consider it’s tailormade for hypercompetitive players who are tasked with cultivating a ton of muscle to withstand the beatings they sign up to take whenever they step out onto the field, you’re just begging for situations where guys feel the need to prove they’re an Alpha.

There tends to be plenty of bad blood between opposing players, but if you’ve ever played football (or any organized sport for that matter), you probably know there’s only so much you can do to stop teammates from butting heads every now and then.

It appears the Kentucky Wildcats were unable to avoid that fate last season based on a video that recently surfaced featuring a heated brawl between a couple of members of the team that went 7-6 in 2023.

Fans quickly identified the man in the blue skull cap as Jeremy Flax, a 6’6″, 356-pound offensive lineman who declared for the NFL Draft after wrapping up his senior season last year (it’s a bit more difficult to determine the identity of the player who was on the receiving end of that pretty brutal suplex).

While it’s certainly not a great look for Kentucky (especially when you consider someone affiliated with the program was presumably responsible for the video being made public), it would be foolish to suggest this is the first (or last) time college football players felt the need to trade hands with a teammate.

Of course, that probably won’t stop people from using the video to jump to some conclusions concerning the current state of the program.
