Kirby Smart took to the stage at SEC Media Days on Tuesday with all eyes on his Georgia football program. The head coach is looking to lead his team to a third consecutive CFP championship.

If they’re able to do so, they’d become the first school since Minnesota to achieve the feat. That came all the way back in 1934-36.

With there being no relevant comparison in college football, at least in recent memory, Smart is getting creative. In a way of avoiding complacency within his program, he says that he’s using three-peats from other sports across the country to motivate players.

And who better to mimic than Michael Jordan?

The quintessential competitor, MJ signifies greatness on the court. Georgia is looking to replicate that success on the football field.

Here’s what Smart said when asked about a potential three-peat.

“We look at other three-peats around sports. We look at the Bulls, teams our guys might actually know of. No offense to the Minnesota 1935 team. I don’t know if it’s going to resonate with my audience.”

It will be a tall task going through the SEC unscathed in 2023, though the Bulldogs should be favored in every game next season. Even in last year’s 15-0 season, there were close calls versus Missouri and, later, Ohio State in the CFP.

In the end, history isn’t on Smart’s mind. Instead, he wants to see his team continue to compete at the highest level.

“I don’t care about 3-peat, 2-peat, 1-peat. I care about complacency,” he said as he closed his comments.

Many believe the Georgia football team have a great chance to make history this fall. We’ll see if Smart’s creative motivation is enough to keep the team’s eyes on the prize.
