French superstar Kylian Mbappe didn’t mince words in his response to Paraguayan Senator Celeste Amarilla following her racist remarks aimed at him during the World Cup.
Amarilla, 61, targeted Mbappé after France’s 1-0 win over Paraguay in the round of 16. The Paraguayan team faced severe scrutiny for their physical play during the game, and Mbappé scored the lone goal of the match with a penalty kick in the 70th minute.
Amarilla’s reprehensible comments left many on social stunned.
“This brute hasn’t even learned to write; instead of mother’s milk, he sucked on coconuts, and the most educated thing he heard were chimpanzees,” she said in a post on her X account.
Amarilla then proceeded to call Mbappé “a colonized Cameroonian pretending to be French,” adding, “The only thing many of us blame Albirroja for is not giving him a slap in the face at the end of the match.”
Shortly after, Mbappé responded.
Kylian Mbappé Calls Out ‘Despicable’ Paraguayan Senator For Racist Remarks
Both the French Football Federation and Mbappe took to social media to denounce Amarilla’s comments.
“The racist remarks by Paraguayan Senator Celeste Amarilla targeting Kylian Mbappé are utterly abhorrent and unacceptable. How can anyone make such statements?” the FFF posted on X. “These remarks are criminal and reprehensible. They must be prosecuted here as elsewhere. The FFF is filing a report with the prosecutor’s office for the purpose of judicial action.”
Meanwhile, Mbappé stated that Amarilla’s “despicable” comments are not representative of Paraguay.
Madame Celeste Amarilla,
“Madame Celeste Amarilla,
You are a despicable woman and unworthy of your position. You do not represent Paraguay, that country which has sweated passion and honor throughout the competition,” he wrote.
Through your recklessness and your brazen racism, the entire world has already forgotten the journey and the historic effort that your players accomplished during this World Cup, making way for an incompetent woman who gives the worst possible image of her country. I will never allow people like her the freedom to spread their hatred and racism across the world.”
Amarilla has not yet responded to Mbappé. However, the French star received plenty of support from his countrymen, as well as Paraguayans and the rest of the world, in response to Amarilla’s horrific comments.
