La Salle University men’s basketball is not very good this year. However, that isn’t keeping their fans from showing up and showing out — even on the road.

On Wednesday evening, the Explorers traveled to Saint Louis University and took on the Billikens, who are still in the NCAA Tournament mix. It did not go well for them.

La Salle went on to lose by 26 and dropped to 7-16 on the year. However, in the stands, its fans remained rowdy from tip to final buzzer.

A group of Explorers, who must live in the Saint Louis area, showed up to support their friend Kale Beers, who is La Salle’s play-by-play announcer. They showed up ready to support their guy.

Closer to tip-off, one of them put on a Gumby suit. Gumby, of course, is the titular green clay humanoid character who is the center of the clay animation franchise.

Once the game began, the group of La Salle (and Beers) faithful were loud and proud.

They were also very hard to miss, considering that one of them was dressed as Gumby and that they were holding signs that read “KALE!!” and “BEERS!!”, which don’t make sense out of context.

Unfortunately for the Explorers, the game did not go their way. But that did not keep them from having a good time.

At one point during the broadcast, the camera cut to Gumby. Through his mouth hole, which he had to open up with his left hand, he proceeded to crush a beer with his right hand.

This right here is what college hoops is all about— a bunch of the boys rolling up to an away game in which their team got gobsmacked to crush some brewskis, support their friend on the call, and have themselves a Wednesday.
